Fiat Grande Punto Hatchback
Review
Fiat's best-seller, the Punto, is reborn as the Grande Punto, stressing that this new car is the largest supermini on the market. More remarkable is that equipment levels and safety standards have improved, yet the price has not been unduly hiked in comparison to the previous model: the range now starts at £7,594. The Grande Punto looks stylish and feels solid, yet not every engine in the range shows it off to best advantage.

Equipment
The range starts with Active trim, offering body-colour bumpers, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, trip computer, height adjustment on the driver's seat, full-sized spare wheel and four-speaker radio-CD. Step up to Active Sport trim to gain body colour door handles, door mirror housings and side skirts, 15-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, leather trim on the steering wheel and gearknob, front foglights and an MP3 facility on the radio-CD. Dynamic trim loses the spoiler, side skirts, MP3 facility and front foglights, but gets a fancier wheel design, a 60-40 split-fold facility on the rear seat and aircon. Eleganza gets 16-inch alloys, front-door puddle lights, front armrest with storage, electric lumbar adjustment on the driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, stability program, and audio/comms control buttons on the steering wheel. Finally, Sporting trim loses the puddle lights, armrest and storage, lumbar adjustment and parking sensors, and swaps the climate control for plain aircon, but it gains 17-inch alloys, white-graphics instrument panel, MP3 facility on the radio-CD, spoiler and side skirts, chromed exhaust tailpipe, sports front seats and front foglights. Not all trims are available with all engines.
