Skoda Octavia Hatchback
Review
The success of the Octavia in the UK came as a pleasant surprise for the Czech car maker and confirmed the extent of the breakthrough it made in terms of buyer appeal with the Fabia. The quality of components, performance, reliability and finish achieved under Volkswagen ownership have of course prompted a gradual rise in price, a trend continued by the new Octavia model, launched in 2004. The model remains capacious, understated and sound value for money, both on purchase price and running costs.

Equipment
The Octavia is offered in three trime leves: Classic, Ambiente and Elegance. Specifications lag behind the mainstream players in the D segment with the Classic not even stretching to tinted glass in its value-focused package. Standard kit on the Classic does include electric front windows and heated door mirrors with integrated indicator lights, sound sytem with single CD player and a steering column that adjusts for reach and rake.
Ambiente grade adds air conditioning, electric rear windows, remote central locking and a trip computer. Matters improve sharply with the Elegance, which comes with automatic wipers, cruise control, self-dipping rear view mirror, climagte control, front fog lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels and an eight-speaker sound system with six-disc autochanger.
