Volkswagen Polo Hatchback
Review
A mid-life revision has seen the Polo grow slightly in size and adopt two excellent new 1.4 TDI diesel engines. It remains a well-built and roomy contender, if lacking slightly in image and specification. Prices have been kept lower partly through more modest trim specifications, with around 10 priced below £10,000.

Equipment
The Polo is available in six grades: E, SE, Match, Sport, Dune and GTI. E grade is fiercely budget-focused, with no frills beyond a reach and height-adjustable steering wheel, power steering and a four-sepeaker sound system. SE models have 14-inch alloys, semi-automatic air conditioning, front seat height adjustment, under-seat storage drawer, electrically adjusable heated door mirrors, remote central locking, split-folding rear seat and a light in the boot. Match versions add climate, control, front fog lights, door mirrors with built-in indicator lamps, 15-inch alloys, leather steering wheel and gearshift trim and CD autochanger or iPod integration. Sport grade comes with sports, sports suspension, chrome interior and exterior detailing, illuminated vanity mirrors and an eight-speaker sound system. Dune models have a dedicated styling package that gives the car an SUV appearance, plus raised suspension, 17-inch BBS alloys, electric rear windows, seatback pockets, roof rails and sports seats. GTI versions feature a sport styling body kit, rea spoiler, sports pedals, 16-inch alloyw, front and rear disc brakes with erd callipers and carpet mats.
