Volkswagen Touareg 4x4 Review
Introduced in July 2003, the Volkswagen Touareg is VW's first attempt to compete in the modern SUV market. It is a very impressive machine. Fortunately, with upward-spiralling development costs being a major concern of all car manufacturers, VW was able to lean on its oft-times "partner" Porsche Cars for some valuable assistance. The shared platform strategy has resulted in the Touareg for VW and the Cayenne for Porsche. Never intended to be a performance vehicle, the most unwitting champion of the marque is the awesome V10 turbo-diesel, which promises the ride of a lifetime behind the world's most potent diesel car engine. It is a comprehensive line-up, with a choice of Sport or standard trim levels and two petrol and three diesel engines.

Four grades - standard, SE, V10 SE and Altitude. Standard grade includes centre differential lock, permanent four-wheel drive, multifunction computer, cruise control, electric windows, electric heated door mirrors, CD player and 17-inch alloys. SE grade adds dual-zone climate control, front fog lamps, 18-inch alloys and leather upholstery. V10 SE models feature air suspension, bi-xenon headlamps, electrically adjustable front seats, rain sensor, auto-dipping rear view mirror, engine compartment light and dedicated 18-inch wheel design. Altitude grade adds body styling kit, heat insulating rear tinted glass, polished steel exhaust pipe and 19-inch alloys (20-inch for V10).
