A leading supplier of used commercial vans has reported that the snow and bad weather conditions in January have led to a significant amount of drivers deciding to lease 4×4 vehicles.

A lot of towns and villages in the UK were brought to a standstill by thick layers of snow at the beginning of the year. However 4×4 drivers were largely unaffected as their vehicles could easily drive on slippery road surfaces.

Simon Joyce, Sales Director of Anchor Vans, said, “They cope so well in the snow, and are so versatile, it’s no surprise they’ve been so popular.”

It therefore seems that although the snow caused so many problems for drivers, it is now proving very beneficial for car leasing companies.

Mr Joyce added, “The snow was a mixed blessing for us. We found it just as inconvenient as many other retailers; however, it has increased the popularity of the 4×4 trucks that we stock.â€�

The company stock a wide range of larger vehicles, including 4×4 from Ford, Nissan and Mitsubishi, all of which have seen an increased level of enquiries and increased leasing figures.

In fact figures have risen by up to 4% since the beginning of 2010, and experts have said that sales of 4×4′s are immense. In comparison to figures for large family cars, the sales of 4×4′s have more than doubled for the same period.

These figures are even more surprising because recent increases in fuel prices led experts to believe that leasing figures would crash.

Adrian Rushmore, Glass’s managing editor, said, “Given the series of fuel price increases, it is perhaps surprising that there has not been any kind of backlash in the premium sectors this time around.”
