Kia Cee’d to replace Chevrolet Lancetti as Top Gear’s reasonably priced car
Kia have provided 3 examples of the Cee’d to the programme for its segment, which sees celebrities try to set a record time on the show’s track. It’s believed Kia, who have yet to make a major impact on the UK market, will get a great deal of exposure, which will help to raise their profile with the British consumer. And it seems the Cee’d has already got fans on the show. On Sunday Jeremy Clarkson said the model demonstrates “amazing performance for its price” when the Dragon’s Den’s Peter Jones scored an impressive time of 1:45:9. The cars provided to the show are powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine which produces 124bhp. The cars have standard features, except for the addition of racing seats, harnesses and a roll cage. The Kia Cee’d replaces the Chevrolet Lancetti, which has been the car of choice on the show for the past 4 years. The top time recorded by the Lancetti was 1:45:81 by Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay – a time which has nearly been beaten already with the Cee’d in just 1 episode. Industry insiders are already praising the Cee’d above its predecessors and believe it shows just how far Kia have come in the last 6 years. The manufacturer has already sold more cars in the first 5 months of 2010 than it did in the whole of 2007, demonstrating a rise in popularity for the Korean manufacturer. “The last time Top Gear paid us any attention I think they tried to build one of our cars out of washing machines – so this is quite a step forward in their understanding of just how Kia has changed over the last six years,” commented Kia’s Stephen Kitson. The Kia Cee’d is available for purchase and can be leased from Central Contracts today for as little as £169.33 per month. No related posts. |
