The third of our Olympic themed blogs which showcases the most popular manufacturers in each country competing in the 2012 London Olympics.
Have you ever wondered what people drive thousands of miles away or what’s the most popular in each country?Here are the next 20 countries and what the inhabitants are most likely to be seen cruising around their home towns in.
The Toyota Premio is a large spacious saloon fit for families or business executives who want to travel in style. Toyota seems to be the favourite and in first position on average for all of the countries mentioned. The Scoda Fabia and the Octavia also dominate the Bosnian car market.
The popularity of the 4×4 cannot be ignored as the top 2 best selling models are the Toyota Hilux and the Toyota Frontier. However this information is only available in 2005 and has been rather difficult to find more up to date information. The information which we have been able to find is that the Toyota Noah is also extremely popular, ranging in price but seems to be a Bolivian favourite none the less.
Since the begging of the year the Bahrain car market has grown considerably and 4,197 new car registrations were made in 2012. A huge growth from the the previous year is 69%. The most recent data which we have found is from March which shows that the two most popular cars bought were the Toyota Land cruiser and the Toyota Prado. Although only a few positions lower is the Dodge Charger which is totally different to the top two positions. Other information shows that the used car market is moving away from saloons as the top most advertised cars are the Mercedes S class which would have been popular a few years ago and also the BMW 5 Series. It seems that space has become the priority!
The popular Toyota Corolla Sedan is in at first place due to the amount which are being sold here second hand. Although data is limited the BMW 3 series is also popular in Botswana and so is the Nissan X Trail. Other information which we have gathered stops at 2010 where the Toyota dominated the motor vehicle market with a number of models from the Hilux to the much smaller Opel Corsa. With this data in mind Toyota may still be the ring leaders of the car market!
With a literacy rate of 99% and an incredibly low unemployment rate it’s no surprise that this country is clued up when it comes to picking great cars. The top three most purchased cars from the latest data we have from the end of 2010 are the Renault Logan winning a gold medal, the Renault Sandero which was made only for left hand drive gets the silver medal and winning bronze is the VW Touareg which is a large sized 4×4 which is still in production today.
This Olympic competitor, home to the Rio Carnival has a diverse selection of cars for sale second hand and the most popular models sold are also quite varied. The Volkswagen Golf is in at the top spot when it comes to the most popular vehicle. Also popular here in Britain as the German manufacturer is known for quality, and great fuel consumption ensuring that you get the most out of your tank of fuel. Which is why it’s no surprise that the Golf is number one here! The second most popular car to purchase is the Chevrolet Montana which is a larger pick up truck. Having looked at the most popular second hand cars for sale in Brazil it seems that they have had a change of heart when it comes to buying cars as some of the most popular cars for sale were surprisingly the Hummer H3 and also the Cadillac Escalade! A huge difference from the VW Golf. Somehow we think they have learnt there lesson when it comes to looking after fuel consumption!
British Virgin Islands
The Nissan Cube is back loud and proud as the most popular car to be sold in the Virgin Islands coming in a close second is the Toyota Altezza which resembles a Lexus somewhat and then in at third place is the speedy Nissan Skyline which was also featured in our Top Ten Boy Racer Cars!
In order of the most purchased in Bugaria is Volkswagen in at first place followed by Ford in second and then Toyota back again in at third position. Toyota looks like it is still continuing to produce cars which appeal to people in every country. Subaru is also popular in the used car market with the Forester being the most advertised used car in Bulgaria.
The Toyota Hilux is the king of the road in Burkina Faso as it’s miles in front of competitors with sales, especially in the capital Ouagadougou. Other popular models include the Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Mitsubishi L200.
Nigeria’s next door neighbours are fond of the Toyota Hilux. The data for Cameroon is somewhat limited as only just over 3,000 new cars were sold in 2007. Other popular models are smaller 4x4s such as the Toyota RAV4 and the Mitsuibishi Pajero which is also a short wheel base 4×4 popular in Cameroon.
Weather your on holiday hiring a car whilst on holiday or looking for a taxi you are sure to find a Toyota Camry which is the most popular car in Cambodia. A mixed back of other cars on the road such as the Honda Fit and also the Nissan March which is the British equivalent to the Nissan Micra. The Nissan cube is also popular here with many being sold also on used car sites.
The Ford F series sold super fast in Canada like Tamagotchi’s did back in the 90′s. Over 10,000 were sold in in may when it was released. The Toyota Supra is another popular choice for those Canadians looking for some kind of thrill closely followed by the Mazda RX7 and then the Nissan Skyline. We suspected that the most popular cars would be large cars ready to battle the snow.

Although the Cayman Islands are part of the British isles they have their own currency the Cayman Isalnd Dollar and offers a high standard of living due to low unemployment rates. The most popular vehicles bought here are dominated by Honda. The most popular is the Honda Accord, followed by the Toyota Altezza and in third place the Honda Civic. The Honda Civic which was first introduced in 1972. Honda have also released a more economical hybrid which has also been popular as it offers more mpg!
Central African Republic
A country partial to the 4×4 as the Nissan X- Trail is the most popular vehicle purchased and also the the Misubishi Pajero IO in second place. Great cars for travelling over rocky terrain. With this in mind it may be a surprise to know that in third place is the VW Golf which is totally different to the two most popular vehicles. I know which we would drive if we were looking to get great mpg!
A country difficult to find up to date information for but from pictures videos and articles many vehicles here are either Taxis or the infamous Toyota Corolla. Another car which is often seen in shots is the Hilux which seems to be flying off courtyards all over the world.
Chile has various popular car manufacturers some feature more than others such as Masda and Toyota who both feature more than once in the top ten most popular vehicle manufacturers in Chile. One of the most popular cars for sale and purchased is the Mazda Demio and the third generation was named World Car of the Year 2008. The newer models have since become much sportier looking.
American manufacturer Chevrolet beats off competition for the number one spot of the most popular car brand in China. The Chevrolet Sail is the best selling model with over 30,000 sales and over 27,000 of those sales are for the sedan version of the Sail. The Ford Focus is in second place for the most popular car in China followed by the Buick Excelle at third which is a 5 door hatchback and available in either a saloon version or alternatively a wagon and a hatchback!
Famous for cigars and is home to 15 active volcanoes, Columbia is also interested in luxury cars. The BMW 5 series is the most popular car purchased and hot on it’s tail is the Mercedes Benz E class which are both medium sized saloons if you aren’t totally familiar with them. The third most popular car purchased is the Mercedes A class which has had a couple of generations and facelifts. The perfect cars if you like to travel in style whilst still being able to park easily in compact inner city areas!

Toyota is back and it isn’t going away where with the Toyota Townace Noah being the most popular car purchased and in second place the Toyota Ipsum. Just to throw a spanner in Toyota’s master plan the Mazda MPV comes in at third position.
