2010 is over but what’s in store for the motoring industry in 2011?

A new year means a brand new range of car offerings but what models will be making the headlines over the coming 12 months?

The start of the year is always an exciting time for car enthusiasts. Cars which impressed and amazed last year are just a distant memory once the new year festivities have died down and now the focus is very much on the next 12 months and if car manufacturers are going to deliver what they so confidently promised the year before.

And 2011 is no different – this year promises to be even more spectacular and innovative than ever before when it comes to new car offerings. Although there is undoubtedly going to be a strong focus on hybrid vehicles as the electric revolution gains pace, there is still a plethora of exciting traditional cars which are sure to have diehard car fantatics salivating into their Top Gear DVDs.

So what cars are going to be taking the nation by storm in 2011? Well that’s a very good question! According to a popular BBC motoring programme, here are the top 10 vehicles you should be watching out for over the coming 12 months.

1. McLaren MP4-12C: The highly anticipated MP4-12C marks the latest chapter in McLaren’s impressive history. Boasting fantastic performance figures and slick lines, the MP4-12C is like nothing the car market has ever seen before. A twin turbo 3.8 litre V8 engine is matched with a light weight carbon monofibre hub to produce a stunning model with a cool £168,500 price tag.

2. Ford Focus: One of the UK’s most popular hatchbacks, the Ford Focus, is set for a relaunch in 2011 and the American car manufacturer has promised it’s going to be the best one yet. With a promise that the Focus’ engines will be at least 10% more efficient than the previous models and the inclusion of a turbo charger for its small petrol engine, the Ford Focus has overgone a complete overhaul for the new year. Available in the first quarter of 2011, the Ford Focus is sure to top the wish lists of many UK drivers.

3. Range Rover Evoque: Unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the new Range Rover Evoque is set to be the smallest and most efficient vehicle ever launched by Land Rover. Moderately priced at around £39,000 and available in just 3 paint colours, the M Coupe has already received rave reviews following its debut at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this month.

5. Aston Martin One-77: The One-77 is everything you’d expect from Aston Martin – powerful, proud and extremely pretty. Equipped with a 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 has 750bhp and is a true force to be reckoned with. The slick model features a hand crafted aluminium body, a full carbon fibre monocoque chassis and is capable of racing from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds. Interested? Bad luck! Only 77 models are set to be released – all of which have already been snapped up by eager Aston Martin fans.

If the Lexus LFA sounds impressive then just wait until you actually see it. It boasts an impressive 330bhp, a 3.4 litre engine and is capable of 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds. Porsche have stripped all of the non-essentials out of the Cayman R which means it weighs around 121 pounds less than the Cayman S. Fancy one? You’ll need a spare £51,731.

The Coupe features just 2 seats, a 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine, a lightweight body and an exciting alternative glasshouse and roof. Funkier looking than the Mini One, the Mini Coupe has managed to take the manufacturer’s retro elements to the next level and is sure to be a big hit when it goes into production later in the year.

9. Nissan GT-R: 2011 marks the return of the Nissan-GTR. Revamped for the new year, the model boasts 523bhp, a new two wheel driving mode, flashy leather interiors and a 3.8 litre twin turbo V6 engine.
